Student Supervisor Position: My husband and I are beginning construction of a 2000 sq ft residence in Bozeman. It is a modest home with 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. We live in Florida so we will only be able to make quarterly visits to the site. We have hired a general contractor for the project. This month the driveway is being laid, and the build site cleared and prepped to begin construction in the Spring. We hope for the home to be completed around June of 2009. The site is located in the Aspen Meadow subdivision, just off Jackson Creek Road. We are interested in hiring a student in your architecture department to monitor the job progress by making visits to the site, probably once a week. We would like the MSU consultant to be our "eyes and ears." We would expect them to take digital photos of job progress and conditions, and email reports about what is happening at the site. We do not expect the consultant to be responsible for making decisions about architecture, engineering or construction methods. We simply feel a student in your particular school would be more observant than the average lay person and could be more attuned to the situation to provide concise reports as a dis-interested third party. We have every confidence in our contractor, but realize their expertise lies in building the home, not in taking photos or sending us updates. The contractor will be fully aware of the function of our MSU consultant in keeping us up to date on progress. We believe this will be a good opportunity for a student to get a bit of experience on the job, and give us a better feel for the project.
We will compensate the consultant for their fuel to the job site, and a per visit fee of $50. We'd like your input as to whether that is a reasonable compensation based on the local economy. We will be in Bozeman Sept 28th thru October 6th, and then plan to return over the Christmas holidays, and again in the Spring when construction begins.
If there is a student interested in this project we can be reached at our home at 561-745-8640. While we are in Bozeman the cell number is 561-309-3177. We can also be contacted via email at catfifer@bellsouth.net, or our home address at: 18740 SE River Ridge Rd, Jupiter, Florida 33469.
